Help!! with my NEW straightener!?

I got the Hot shot Helrn of Troy Salon flat iron titanium styling surface straightener her and its so hard to pull through my hair?? and when i got done.. there were SCRATCHES on the inside!!!?? is it the hairspray in my hair? PLEASE help!!! how do i get the scratches off and why is it hard to pull through!!??
