Can I burn a DVD with CD files?

I have a car from 2000 (or something). Here in Costa Rica there are no decent radio stations, so I decided to make my own CD. I am pretty sure the CD player in the car can't play mp3s, so I wanted to burn some mp3s as CD tracks (whatever format that is). I am on a Mac and I use Toast Titanium. At the store I couldn't find any specification on the blank CDs. Some did say computer use, but the others said nothing, so I bought a DVD hoping I could pack it with tracks. Is it even possible? Titanium keeps giving me me errors without telling me the reason or what to do; I hate when applications do that. So, bottom line: what blank CD do I need to burn audio track and is it possible to burn a DVD with audio tracks? I have a Maxell DVD-R and DVD+R 4.7GB.
