Accepted two university admissions, is it possible to reject one offer in august?

My parents told me to accept the two universities I have been admitted as a safeguard, but timetable selections are coming out and I know I will only be attending one of these institutes. But since the final decisions are not finalised until the provincials have been blended with my marks in August, when is the ideal time to reject one of them?
