Business casual would be slacks and a shirt. But, how people define this does vary with the environment. It is always better the first day to be overdressed than under-dressed. For some companies a jacket of some type (not a suit) and no tie is business casual. For others, it's khaki type pants and a knit shirt (polo shirt). Any type of slacks (not jeans) and a long-sleeve button shirt is generally accepted as business casual, with appropriate shoes (no sandals or sneakers).
