Can a man (age 30s) wear a short-sleeved silk shirt to a "gala"? ?

it's outdoors on a warm June evening. Some of the country's top chefs and vintners will be there... it's at a quaint outdoor/greenhouse location... We don't' want to undress or overdress. Is it preferable to do long sleeves roLled up with trousers? Help!
